This Century’s First Triple-Dip La Nina is on the Way
Powderchasers, it’s time to stop wearing your pajamas inside out and throwing ice cubes down the loo. Your superstitious rituals may have just paid off! A weather phenomenon known as La Nina, is forecast for a “triple-dip” this winter season—meaning cooler winter temps and greater average snowfall in the Rockies. What is La Nina? A La Nina is characterized by cooler-than-normal surface temperatures in the eastern Pacific Ocean that push cold winds northward. La Nina winters are typically associated with greater precipitation—especially in the Northwestern United States. The “Triple-Dip” La Nina forecast, termed by meteorologists, predicts a greater than 90% chance that La Nina conditions will occur again this winter—becoming this century’s first “triple-dip.” This is great news for skiers and riders as this should create excellent winter weather conditions in the western United States for the season.Read More
