Powderchasers, it’s time to stop wearing your pajamas inside out and throwing ice cubes down the loo. Your superstitious rituals may have just paid off! A weather phenomenon known as La Nina, is forecast for a “triple-dip” this winter season—meaning cooler winter temps and greater average snowfall in the Rockies.
What is La Nina?
A La Nina is characterized by cooler-than-normal surface temperatures in the eastern Pacific Ocean that push cold winds northward. La Nina winters are typically associated with greater precipitation—especially in the Northwestern United States.
The “Triple-Dip” La Nina forecast, termed by meteorologists, predicts a greater than 90% chance that La Nina conditions will occur again this winter—becoming this century’s first “triple-dip.” This is great news for skiers and riders as this should create excellent winter weather conditions in the western United States for the season.
