Palm Springs has long been a beloved destination for A-list celebrities
looking for a weekend respite from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood.
The warm desert climate shaded by palm trees, spectacular San Jacinto
Mountain views, and Mid-Century Modern homes with sparkling pools
brought many legendary stars—such as Frank Sinatra and the entire Rat
Pack—to beautiful Palm Springs. Modernism Week provides visitors an
opportunity to experience the modern California Desert style firsthand
with expert panels and popular home tours.
FRANK SINATRA & NANCY BARBATO SINATRA
One of the most well-preserved legacies of the Modernist Movement is the
Twin Palms Estate, commissioned by the highly successful singer and
actor Frank Sinatra and his wife, Nancy Barbato Sinatra. Their permanent
residence from 1948 to 1957, this property was rumored to have been
built as a celebratory gift to himself for signing a large contract with
MGM, cementing his millionaire status. ("It was a very good year" for Sinatra!)
A pinnacle of Modernism Week 2020, Sinatra's grand estate features many
of the exclusive elements, such as clean lines and seamless integration
of indoor and outdoor living spaces, that makes Modernism so appealing
to the masses.
